The Cambs Badminton Academy is taking its members to Tielt, Belgium for its 5th International Tournament held in a brand new sports stadium with 16 courts. The Academy is sharing this trip with the Glos+Stars Performance Centre from Gloucester and we are delighted that we have formed the sort of relationship with that club that will benefit us all in the future. They, too, will be taking players from their own club.
The International Tournament is being held on the weekend of 1st and 2nd of October, 2011, and we'll be leaving on Friday 30th September to get down there on Friday evening, ready to start at 9am on Saturday morning. To keep costs right down we have arranged accommodation in a nearby youth hostel set in its own grounds of woodland and open countryside. We have no idea what this accommodation is going to be like but at least we shall know whether it's worth going back to next year! The accommodation will be in male and female blocks/rooms and players will need to take a sleeping bag. Breakfast will be included in the price.
There are three disciplines and players are able to enter all three if they so choose: - singles, level doubles and mixed doubles. There are 5 categories of players: B1 (rank 150-200 approx), B2 (rank 200-250 approx), C1 (rank 250 - 500 approx), C2 (rank 500+ approx) and D (good standard club player. Juniors are able to enter but parental consent will be required and the player MUST be able to play in an adult environment without being put under undue pressure. Please ask your coach for guidance on this. The cost of the tournament is €6 for one discipline, €12 for 2 and €15 for three. This is payable in cash on the day. The cost of the transport and the accommodation (B&B) is £95, payable in advance to Cambs Badminton Academy. As with all international tournaments players need to supply their own shuttles. Glos+Stars, in association with Head, are able to provide tournament grade shuttles at £11.25 a dozen. Players in D class will be using plastic shuttles. The Academy will provide these and will charge a nominal sum for use of the shuttles as long as they are returned at the end of each game.
There is a cafe in the sports complex and food in Belgium is generally cheaper than in the UK. The weekend is actually a very inexpensive
trip and we really do hope that as many people as possible can come along. If we don't reach our minimum number of bookings then the trip
will either need to be cancelled or costs increased.
Families are welcome to accompany players but only if there is room on the coach. Players will get priority on bookings. Don't forget your EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), your passport and, ideally, holiday insurance that will cover you for badminton related incidents. Direct Line insurance cover this.
Entries MUST be in by 30th August as a deposit has been put on accommodation until that date. Entry Form
